How to cast out devils?

February 2, 2010

How to cast out devils?

No devils,No evangelism,

Know devils, Know evangelism.

1.Through His name.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; Mar 16:17

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. Luk 10:17

 2. Through His teachings/ authority.

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luk 10:19.

3.Through anoniting.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, Luk 4:18.

 4.Through prevailing prayers.

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. Mat 17:21

5.Through fasting prompted by God.

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. Mat 17:21

6. Through His words.

When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: Mat 8:16

7.Through powerful faith.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1Pe 5:8 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. 1Pe 5:9

8. Through praise and worship.

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. 1Sa 16:23

Supporting verses..

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1John 3:8 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. Mat 12:28

BLESSINGS OF OUR LORD
WHEN HE IS IN OUR MIDST
Short Description
"The Lord hath taken aeay thy judgements, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil anymore."
The blessings of our Lord when He is in our midst :-
1.We will be made special : Exo 8:22 When our Lord is in midst of us, He will make a clevage between Godly people and worldly people. We will be made special only when we give first preference to Him. We have to consult Him before doing anything.
2. He speaks : Num 7:89 The dwelling place of our Lord is the Heaven but He comes down just to converse with us. So, when He is in our midst He will talk to us. As God speaks in the tabernacle, He should come into our dwelling places and talk to us.
3. He will never forsake us : I Kings 6:13 When He is in our midst , He will forsake us. This is the romise given by Him to His people.
4. He will help us : I Kings Ps 46:5 When our Lord is in our midst, we will be part of Him. So, we can rely upon our Lord for any kind of help.
5. No temptations will overcome us : Dan 3:23 We may be undergoing many temptations and tribulations but nothing will overcome us since our Lord is in our midst. When the three were thrown into the fire, everyone saw the fourth man in the fire. The fourth man was the Son of God. So, nothing was burnt.
6. We will never be put to shame : Joel 2:27 When our Lord is in our midst, we will never be ashamed. For this we should trust Him.
7. Peace : Luke 24:36 When God is in our midst, we will have peace of mind. Satan may try to spoil it but when we trust our Lord, he can do nothing.

Jeus The Prince of Life.

July 19, 2009

Two kinds of people.

I John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God
hath not life.

I. One who has Jesus Christ.

Jesus The Prince of the Life.

Jesus The Light of the Life.

1.The Blessed Life.

Mk 5:28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
5:29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she
felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone
out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched
my clothes?

2. The Abundant life.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I
am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more
abundantly.

3. The New Life.

II Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things
are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

4. The Peaceful life.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it
be afraid.

5. Satisfied life.

I Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not
highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God,
who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

6. The meaningful life.

John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a
well of water springing up into everlasting life.

7. The Everlasting life.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true
God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

I John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and
this life is in his Son.

Gace comes into force when you contact Jesus.

Law comes into force when you violate the rules.

Holiness!!

July 12, 2009

HOLINESS

"You must be holy because I am holy." Leviticus 11:44

Holiness! There is sweet music in the very name. It tells of sin subdued—of boisterous passions lulled—of fiery lusts becalmed—of miry paths made clean. It sets before us a pure walk, where peace and joy go hand in hand, and scatter heaven-born fragrance round.

Reader, this grace for a few moments claims your view. God's voice commends it to your love. May His might graft it in your heart.

Holiness! To cause this lovely plant to thrive—its roots to deepen—and its branches to bear fruit, is one grand purpose of the scheme of grace.

Fly back in spirit to the day, when sovereign love made its all-wise decrees, and life's fair book received the blessed names. We find election choosing souls in Christ. What is the final cause? It is, that they should be holy and without blame before God in love. Eph. 1:4. A holy stone is laid, that thence a holy fabric may arise. The will to save wills Holiness in the saved.

Predestination next draws the full chart of the believer's course. The path is Holiness. "A highway shall be there, and a way; and it shall be called the way of Holiness." Is. 35:8. The holy pilgrims may not walk in mire. They all show features of a heavenly birth. "Whom He did foreknow He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son." Rom. 8:29. The God-like travelers must tread a godly road. When the due time is come, Jesus appears with full redemption in His hands. Doubtless the first note of the Gospel-trumpet is rescue by His death from sin's tremendous woe—payment by His blood of sin's immeasurable debt—endurance on His cross of the law's curse—satisfaction through His sacrifice of all God's claims. Wondrous achievement! Noble triumph! Worthy display of everlasting love and power!

But is this all? Are there not other waters in this well? Are there not other summits on this rock? Yes. Christ is redemption's overflowing cup. Christ is the uttermost of man's vast need. Hence He frees from the rule and sway of evil, as surely as from its endless pains. Holiness is the Redeemer's essence; and the redemption's end. Hark, the word loudly cries, "He gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity." Tit. 2:14. "Who gave Himself for our sins,...

The Believer's constant outlook.

June 20, 2009

Consider The Lord Jesus Christ.

Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling,
consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ
Jesus;

12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against
himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

1.Consider His humility.

Phil 2:2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of
a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and
became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name
which is above every name:

2. Consider His obedience.

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things
which he suffered;

3. Consider His Characters.

Heb 7:26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless,
undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice,
first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: for this he did
once, when he offered up himself.

4. Consider His piety/Zeal

John 2:2:14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves,
and the changers of money sitting:
2:15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all
out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the
changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
2:16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make
not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
2:17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine
house hath eaten me up.

5. Consider His faithfulness.

Heb 3:2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was
faithful in all his house.

6. Consdier His Minsitries.

Mark 10:10:45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to
minister, and to give his life a ransom for many

7. Consider His teachings/Doctrines,.

(a)Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither
have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more
are ye better than the fowls?

(b)Luke 12:27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and
yet I...

What is your choice?

June 6, 2009

                                         What is Y (Our) Choice?

1.Joshua’s Choice.

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you thisday whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathersserved that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of theAmorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we

will serve the LORD.

2.Solomon’s Choice.

I Kings 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thypeople, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is ableto judge this thy so great a people?3:10 And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this

thing.

3.Mose’s Choice.

Hebrews 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be calledthe son of Pharaoh’s daughter;11:25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than toenjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 4.Mary’s Choice.10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. 5.David’s Choice.Psm 119:173 Let thine hand help me; for I have chosen thy precepts. 6.St.Paul’s Choice.Philippians 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the Excellency ofthe knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have sufferedthe loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may winChrist, 7.Joseph’s Choice.Genesis39: 9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept backany thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how thencan I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?  Kindly meditate and be blessed.

Christian quotes!!!

COVETOUSNESS - THE SIN NOBODY WILL ADMIT TO.

June 2, 2009

COVETOUSNESS - THE SIN NOBODY WILL ADMIT TO.

As we look at this 10th Commandment, the first characteristic I notice is that this Commandment represents a move away from actions into the realm of attitude. While breaking all the rest of the Commandments has its origin in the heart and mind of man, they all find their ultimate expression in some type of physical activity. This Commandment is different. While there is often tangible evidence of lying, stealing, adultery, murder, disobedience to parents, taking God's Name in vain, making graven images or having other gods before God, there is usually little or no evidence of covetousness. As a result, this is a sin that is rarely, if ever confessed and owned up to. In truth, we are all guilty. We just won't admit it to ourselves, others or the Lord. Of all the Commandments listed, this is probably the one most often broken and the one that will most readily cause you to break the other nine. We will see that covetousness is a serious sin and that it needs to be confessed and forsaken by every child of God.

Once, Abraham Lincoln was seen walking with his 2 sons and both the boys were crying. As passerby asked the President what was wrong with his boys. "Exactly what's wrong with the whole world," said Lincoln, "I have three walnuts and each boy wants two."

Dr. Ken Trivette shares the following story. "On the night of November 16, 1930, Mrs. Henrietta Garret, a lonely 81 year old widow died in her home in Philadelphia, and, unwillingly, started the most fantastic case of inheritance litigation in history. She had failed to leave a will, or no will was found to her $17,000,000 estate; a mystery still unsolved. She had expertly handled her financial affairs since her husbands death in 1895 and therefore many felt that she must have realised that without an will, her fortune would become involved in legal battles.

Although, Mrs. Garret, at the time of her death, had only one known relative, a second cousin, and less than a dozen friends; attempts to prove relationship to her and claim a part of her estate was made by more than 26,000 persons from 47 states and 29 foreign countries, represented by more than 3,000 lawyers. In their efforts to obtain her estate, there were those that committed perjury, faked...

He cares for me!

June 2, 2009

HE cares for ME!

(Charles Spurgeon)

"Casting all your care upon Him—for He cares for you!" 1 Peter 5:7

It is a happy way of soothing sorrow, when we can feel—"HE cares for ME!" Christian! do not dishonor God, by always wearing a brow of worry! Come—cast your burden upon your God! You are staggering beneath a weight—which your Father would not feel. What seems like a crushing burden to you—would be but as small dust to Him. Nothing is so sweet as to,
"Lie passive in God's hands,
And know no will, but His."

O child of suffering—be patient! God has not overlooked you in His providence. He who is the feeder of sparrows—will also furnish you with what you need. Do not sit down in despair.

There is One who cares for you!

His all-seeing eye is fixed on you!

His all-loving heart beats with pity for your woe!

His omnipotent hand shall yet bring you the needed help!

The darkest cloud—shall scatter itself in showers of mercy.

The blackest gloom—shall give place to the morning light.

If you are one of His family—He will bind up your wounds, and heal your broken heart. Do not doubt His grace, because of your troubles—but believe that He loves you as much in seasons of distress—as in times of happiness. What a serene and quiet life might you lead—if you would leave providing—to the God of providence!

If God cares for you—why need you care also? Can you trust Him for your soul—and not for your body? He has never refused to bear your burdens—He has never fainted under their weight. Come, then, soul! Be done with fretful worry—and leave all your concerns in the hand of your gracious God!

WHEN GLORY PASSETH BY..........
Short Description
EXO 33:22 \"........ GLORY PASSETH BY.........\" In Hebrew the word \'passeth\' means \'transition\'. So when our Lord passeth by our lives there will be a transition in our lives.
Detail1. EXALTATION: EXO 12 : 12,13        Our Lord says that He will not smite Israelites because of the Blood which was striked on their houses when He passes by. This gave them exaltation. Similarly, no plague can touch us because our Savior Christ's Blood is striked on us and on our walls. This will exalt us.        Our Lord executes His judgment on the gods of Egypt by changing Nile River into blood. Because of these Israelites were exalted. Similarly, He will exalt us by executing His judgment on our opponents. 2. MERCY: EXO 34 : 6         When our Lord passes by, He keeps His Mercy for thousands of our generation. He is a Merciful God. His Mercy will not change. 3. INHERITANCE: DEU 9: 3           When our Lord passeth by, we can inherit everything which is under the control of gentiles. 4. ENERGY: 1 KINGS 19: 11, 12,14          Our Lord passes by Elijah, when he dirges to Lord that he is alone. He hears a still voice. Our God reveals the fact that He had saved many servants of God like him. Elijah was so weird earlier but when he heard this, he became energetic and continued his ministries for God. 5. CALMNESS: MARK 6: 48, 51           The wind was against the disciples when they were sailing. They strained a lot to come out of the situation but they couldn’t. Jesus saw them toiling. He went up into the boat to save them. The wind which was contrary to them ceased immediately.              These are the blessings which we will inherit when our Lord passes by our sides.  MOUNTAINS

DEU 11:11 "But the land whither ye go to possess it is a land of hills and valleysand drinketh water of the rain of heaven"
Detail1.MOUNT SINAI - MOUNT WHICH LEADS US : EXO 31 : 18                        It was in this mountain where our Lord God gave His commandments to Moses. This mount Sinai tells us that He is leading us through His commandments. 2.MOUNT MORIAH - MOUNT OF OBEDIENCE : GEN 22 : 2               It was in this mountain where our Lord God commanded Abraham to sacrifice... Christ's garden

Christ's garden

(by Spurgeon)

"I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse." Song of Solomon 5:1

The heart of the believer is Christ's garden. He bought it with His precious blood, and He enters it and claims it as His own.

A garden implies separation. It is not the open common; it is not a wilderness; it is walled around, or hedged in. Would that we could see the wall of separation between the church and the world made broader and stronger. It makes one sad to hear Christians saying, "Well, there is no harm in this; there is no harm in that," thus getting as near to the world as possible. Grace is at a low ebb in that soul which can even raise the question of how far it may go in worldly conformity.

A garden is a place of beauty, it far surpasses the wild uncultivated lands. The genuine Christian must seek to be more excellent in his life than the best moralist, because Christ’s garden ought to produce the best flowers in all the world. Even the best is poor compared with Christ’s deservings; let us not put Him off with withering and dwarf plants. The rarest, richest, choicest lilies and roses ought to bloom in the place which Jesus calls His own.

The garden is a place of growth. The saints are not to remain undeveloped, always mere buds and blossoms. We should grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Growth should be rapid where Jesus is the Husbandman, and the Holy Spirit the dew from above.

A garden is a place of retirement. So the Lord Jesus Christ would have us reserve our souls as a place in which He can manifest Himself, as He does not unto the world. O that Christians were more retired, that they kept their hearts more closely shut up for Christ! We often worry and trouble ourselves, like Martha, with much serving, so that we have not the room for Christ that Mary had, and do not sit at His feet as we should. The Lord grant the sweet showers of His grace to water His garden this day.

Five Types of Believers

May 28, 2009

Five Types of Believers

Romans 14:1-2

As we study the New Testament, Christians tend to fall in five different types depending on how they understand and respond to the liberty we have in Christ

I. The Weaker Brother: four weaknesses define the weaker brother.

A. He is weak in his faith.

(ROM 14:1-2) "HIM THAT IS WEAK IN THE FAITH RECEIVE YE, BUT NOT TO DOUBTFUL DISPUTATIONS. FOR ONE BELIEVETH THAT HE MAY EAT ALL THINGS: ANOTHER, WHO IS WEAK, EATETH HERBS."

(ROM 14:22-23) "HAST THOU FAITH? HAVE IT TO THYSELF BEFORE GOD. HAPPY IS HE THAT CONDEMNETH NOT HIMSELF IN THAT THING WHICH HE ALLOWETH. AND HE THAT DOUBTETH IS DAMNED IF HE EAT, BECAUSE HE EATETH NOT OF FAITH: FOR WHATSOEVER IS NOT OF FAITH IS SIN."

1. Faith as used here means a firm, intelli-gent conviction based on Scripture that something is okay or not okay.

2. It is a person who doubts and is not sure concerning what he believes.

B. He is weak in knowledge.

(1 COR 8:7) "HOWBEIT THERE IS NOT IN EVERY MAN THAT KNOWLEDGE: FOR SOME WITH CONSCIENCE OF THE IDOL UNTO THIS HOUR EAT IT AS A THING OFFERED UNTO AN IDOL; AND THEIR CONSCIENCE BEING WEAK IS DEFILED."

(ROM 14:14) "I KNOW, AND AM PERSUADED BY THE LORD JESUS, THAT THERE IS NOTHING UNCLEAN OF ITSELF: BUT TO HIM THAT ESTEEMETH ANY THING TO BE UNCLEAN, TO HIM IT IS UNCLEAN."

1. This is the reason for his lack of conviction, a lack of biblical understanding of God's grace.

2. His faith is either misinformed or lacking in biblical content which included three issues.

a. They did not realize the idol was nothing.

b. They did not know that food offered to "a nothing" was not spiritually affected and that it could not be unclean in itself.

c. They do not understand that food cannot commend us to God, that food in itself has no spiritual bearing on our spiritual lives (
1 Cor. 8:8).

C. He is weak in conscience.

1. This means his conscience is based on human standards and norms.

2. His conscience is overly sensitive, condemning him for things Scripture does not. (
1 Cor. 8:7; 10, 12).

D. He is weak in his will.

1. He is weak in his will because he can be influenced to do something contrary to his con-science,...

Jesus!!!!!!!!

May 27, 2009

Jesus!

(Octavius Winslow, "Evening Thoughts")

What is our path to glory, but the path of
tribulation, of suffering, and of death? Our
Lord and Master, in the expression of His
wisdom and love, forewarns us of this: "In
the world you shall have tribulation."

What are all the supports of the believer in
seasons of trial, suffering, and bereavement,
but so many manifestations of the life of the
Lord Jesus? This it is that keeps the soul . . .
buoyant amid the billows,
strong in faith,
joyful in hope,
soaring in love.

Thus is Jesus . . .
the life of every grace,
the life of every promise,
the life of every ordinance,
the life of every blessing.

Yes, of all that is really costly and
precious to a child of God, Jesus is . . .
the substance,
the glory,
the sweetness,
the fragrance,
yes, the very life itself!

Oh! dark and lonely, desolate and painful indeed
would our present pilgrimage be, but for Jesus!

If in the world we have tribulation; in
whom do we have peace? In Jesus!

If in the creature we meet with fickleness and
change; in whom do we find the Friend who loves
at all times? In Jesus!

When adversity comes as a wintry blast, and
lays low our comforts; when the cloud is upon
our tabernacle; when health, and wealth, and
influence, and friends are gone; in whom do
we find the covert from the wind, the faithful,
tender Brother born for adversity? In Jesus!

When temptation assails,
when care darkens,
when trial oppresses,
when bereavement wounds,
when heart and flesh are failing;
who throws around us the protecting shield,
who applies the precious promise,
who speaks the soothing word,
who sustains the sinking spirit,
who heals the sorrow,
who dries the tear? Jesus!

Where sin struggles in the heart, and guilt
burdens the conscience, and unbelief beclouds
the mind; whose grace subdues our iniquities,
whose blood gives us peace, and whose light
dispels our darkness? Jesus!

And when the spark of life wanes, and the
eye grows dim, and the mind wanders, and
the soul, severing its last fetter, mounts
and soars away, Jesus, in that awful moment,
draws near in form unseen, and whispers in
words unheard by all but the departing one,
now in close communion with the solemn
realities of the invisible world, "Fear not;
I am...

Christ, Our Friend.

May 27, 2009

Christ, Our Friend.

Jn 15: 15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Proverbs 17: 17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

1. A friend speaks to his friend.

Exodus 33: 11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

2. A friend intercedes to another friend,

Job 42: 10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. {gave...: Heb. added all that had been to Job unto the double}

3. A friend strengthens another friend.

Lk 12: 4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

4. A friend corrects another friend .

Prov 27: 6 Faithful [are] the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy [are] deceitful. {deceitful: or, earnest, or, frequent}

5. A friend sympathizes to another friend.

Jn 8: 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with [his] finger wrote on the ground, [as though he heard them not].

7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

9 And they which heard [it], being convicted by [their own] conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, [even] unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

6. A friend reveals...

Ministerial Confessions

Ministerial Confessions

by Horatius Bonar

We have been carnal and unspiritual. The tone of our life has been low and earthly. Associating too much and too intimately with the world, we have in a great measure become accustomed to its ways. Hence our spiritual tastes have been vitiated, our consciences blunted, and that sensitive tenderness of feeling has worn off and given place to an amount of callousness of which we once, in fresher days, believed ourselves incapable.

We have been selfish. We have shrunk from toil, difficulty and endurance. We have counted only our lives, and our temporal ease and comfort dear unto us. We have sought to please ourselves. We have been worldly and covetous. We have not presented ourselves unto God as "living sacrifices," laying ourselves, our lives, our substance, our time, our strength, our faculties, our all, upon His altar. We seem altogether to have lost sight of this self sacrificing principle on which even as Christians, but much more as ministers, we are called upon to act. We have had little idea of anything like sacrifice at all. Up to the point where a sacrifice was demanded, we may have been willing to go, but there we stood; counting it unnecessary, perhaps calling it imprudent and unadvised, to proceed further. Yet ought not the life of every Christian, especially of every minister, to be a life of self sacrifice and self denial throughout, even as was the life of Him who "pleased not himself"?

We have been slothful. We have been sparing of our toil. We have not endured hardship as good soldiers of Jesus Christ. We have not sought to gather up the fragments of our time, that not a moment might be thrown idly or unprofitably away. Precious hours and days have been wasted in sloth, in idle company, in pleasure, in idle or worthless reading, that might have been devoted to the closet, the study, the pulpit or the meeting! Indolence, self indulgence, fickleness, flesh pleasing, have eaten like a canker into our ministry, arresting the blessing and marring our success. We have manifested but little of the unwearied, self denying love with which, as shepherds, we ought to have watched over the flocks committed to our care. We have fed ourselves, and not the flock. We have dealt deceitfully with God, whose servants we profess to be.

We have been cold....

The Cup of Wrath By Andrew Bonar

"For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he pours out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them." Psalm 75:8. It will help greatly to the right apprehension of this solemn subject, to notice that Christ is the speaker of these dreadful truths. They cannot, then, have been spoken harshly; they must have been uttered in all tenderness. As the head of His Church, Christ says (Psalm 75:1), "Unto You, O God, do we give thanks;" and then (Psalm 75:2), looking on a world lying in wickedness, He anticipates a different state of things before long: "I purpose when I shall receive the congregation that I shall judge uprightly." This shall be in the day when He returns to judge the earth. It is He, meanwhile, who upholds all by the word of His power; He keeps the world from falling into ruin; He it is that sustains that blue sky, as well as earths foundations, "I bear up the pillars thereof" —and were I to withhold my hand, all would tumble into ruin. Oh that an unthinking world would consider! Oh that fools would learn wisdom, and the proud would fall down before their Lord. For the Judge shall surely come, with the cup of red wine in His hand—a cup of wrath, of which every rebellious one must drink to the dregs. The horns of the wicked shall soon be laid low, and the righteous alone exalted (Psalm 9:10). It is of this cup that we this day wish to speak to you. It gives an alarming, awakening view of our God and Savior. It is not "God in Christ reconciling the world to Himself," but God the Judge, Christ the Judge. It is not the King with the golden scepter, inviting all to draw near: it is the King risen up in wrath, in the evening of the day of grace, to "judge all the wicked of the earth." Oh there is a hell, an endless hell, awaiting the ungodly! The Judge warns us of it--in order that none of us may be cast into that tremendous woe. Say not in your hearts, "God is too loving and merciful ever to condemn a...

A FLY IN THE OINTMENT

May 25, 2009

A FLY IN THE OINTMENT Eccl 7:1-7.

Solomon puts a bottle of perfume on the table. It smells terrible. In the bottom of the bottle is a large dead fly. The dead fly caused the perfume to have a stinking smell. Little things can ruin big things. Somebody forgot to put the top on the bottle. A fly will get into the perfume and cause it to stink. Solomon contrasts the wise with the fool. It is the small things buzzing around in your life that can ruin bigger things. This is true in all areas of life. Little flies can cause big problems. The fool allows the fly to get into the ointment. One moment of indiscretion can ruin your life. Solomon discovered this in his life. The right hand in the Bible is a symbol of God's protection. The fool is on the left hand. A fool gives himself away by the way he lives his life. There are three types of fool mentioned here and we can see the fly in their ointment.

1. The hearty fool (vs 4-7)

The hot-tempered person will be hot-headed. Let there be only one fool in the place! Don't you get mad as well. You need to control your temper. There is a way to handle it. We are to have a calm spirit. Fools get promoted by the hearty fool. It is not what you know - it is who you know. The people who are down low should be up high and those up high should be down low. We are not to complain. We are to wait on the Lord.

 2. The hapless fool (vs 8-11)

This person is operating without any thought. This person digs a hole and falls into it. This person tries to move a stone and it falls on him. These people live their lives without any caution or preparation. The just act and don't think. They do what they feel. They are like a fly in the ointment. They do not think of the long time ramifications. They are chopping with a dull axe. Too many people today borrow and spend money without thinking about how they will pay for it. You are digging your own hole. Don't let the fly get into the ointment. There is a snake that is going to bit you. You need to think of the repercussions.

Psm 86:13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul

from the lowest hell.

1. SUFFICIENT GRACE:

2 COR: 12:9.And he said unto me, [B]My grace is sufficient [/B] for thee: for my

strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I

rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest

upon me.

2. STRENGTHENING GRACE:

Psm 36:7.How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children

of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

PSM 90:14.O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad

all our days.

4. SUSTAINING GRACE.

PSM 94:18.When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.

5. SURROUNDING GRACE.

PSM 32:10.Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the

LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

6. SAVING GRACE.

EPH: 2:8.For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:

it is the gift of God:

7. SANCTIFYING GRACE.

JOHN 1:14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld

his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of

grace and truth.

1:15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I

spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was

before me.

1:16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by

Jesus Christ.
